Short- & Long-Term Training Fellowships
 
Candidates seeking applied HIV Epidemiology training fellowships [and CAE-accreditation as a Member of the College of Applied Epidemiology (MCAE) and/or ultimately become a Fellow of the College of Applied Epidemiology (FCAE)] may apply as follows: 
> a) Read the candidates eligibility requirements and prerequisites below and initiate the process by subscribing to CHASE-CAE
> b) After subscribing to CHASE-CAE, candidates may subsequently apply for placement in a training fellowship as an  MCAE-associate (for those not yet MCAE-eligible) or as a candidate for FCAE-accreditation (for those who are MCAE-eligible but not yet FCAE-eligible); 
> c) Upon acceptance of application, securing a placement site and the relevant Faculty preceptors, candidates may be enrolled in an iHASE-recognized and/or jHASE-recognized applied Epidemiology fellowship/practicum;
 
Candidates' eligibility requirements for short-term (3-6 months) and long-term (12-24 months) fellowships are outlined below:-
 
Candidates for short- and long-term mentored applied HIV Epidemiology fellowship typically include anyone who is interested in acquiring structured accredited applied HIV Epidemiology training [and/or preparing for CAE-accreditation as a MCAE or FCAE ]. Candidates for fellowships may be: 
  • MCAE-associates seeking accreditation as MCAEs, e.g. graduate students (public health, health evaluation sciences, medicine or basic sciences) seeking placement in an applied Epidemiology or public health Epidemiology practicum; and/or
  • Researchers who are not yet MCAE- or FCAE-eligible who are seeking collaboration opportunities in applied HIV Epidemiology with public health agencies.
Prerequisites
  • Eligibility Group 1: Candidates will have completed Master's or Doctoral degree coursework (except theses/ABD) or be recent Master's or Doctoral graduates in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or other related Health Evaluation Sciences;
  • Eligibility Group  2: Candidates will have a) completed basic graduate courses in Epidemiology and Biostatistics methods (including study designs and stratified 2x2 table analysis);  b) completed first year academic credits of training towards a graduate degree in Public Health, Health Evaluation Sciences, Medicine or a related Science degree; and c) able to secure a qualified academic preceptor with a doctorate in a relevant field to support practicum or fellowship, applied learning or graduate students research experience and obtain 2 i-HASE accredited external program plan readers/reviewers (1 HIV Epidemiology academic and 1 applied (public health agency preceptor) HIV Epidemiologist.   • Eligibility Group 3: Candidates will be junior investigators who have completed a Master's or Doctoral degree [in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or  Public Health/related field] consistent with pathways leading to MCAE and for FCAE.
Orientation: During the 3 months immediately preceding the short-term fellowship, all incoming fellows will participate in an orientation course. The orientation course will cover various topics related to developing program competencies and will be taught by iHASE academic preceptor-epidemiologists and faculty at schools of public health.
