5 (MCAE-associate): The MCAE-associate pathway
is an entrance mechanism to admission as a Member of the College
of Applied Epidemiology, MCAE, and ultimately as a Fellow of the
College of Applied Epidemiology, FCAE. MCAE-associate
status is offered to:
a) Public Health Practitioners with academic
training at the levels listed in Pathways 2 through 4 above
who do not yet meet the MCAE experiential requirements, OR
b) Public Health Practitioners and
Allied Health Professionals who hold baccalaureate-level
professional degrees in relevant fields such as Public Health,
Pharmacy, Statistics and Nursing - if they have some research
experience or have completed research methods or health evaluation
science courses (e.g. at least 1 course in Epidemiology methods &
1 course in Biostatistics methods; or a combined course in
Epidemiology & Biostatistics);
c)
Pre-master's or
pre-doctoral graduate students (studying towards any Master's or
Doctoral degree (incl. Medicine) listed in Pathways 1 through 4, above).
This mechanism encourages applied Epidemiology fellowship work in
accordance with a structured
standardized IEPH-accredited/equivalent curriculum of applied
experiences and external quality assurance through continuing
education and peer review of work done by
Public Health Practitioners who are not yet MCAE-eligible. This
pathway may lend support and applied Epidemiology curriculum
structure to graduate students' applied Epidemiology
practicum/internship experiences;
=>MCAE-associates must have completed, be
enrolled in/applying to undergo the following applied Epidemiology
training experiences:
- Completed/enrolled in/applying
to enroll in a
short-term iHASE-recognized and/or jHASE-recognized applied
Epidemiology fellowship/practicum (at
least 6 months including project write-up time) or a bona
fide equivalent in applied Epidemiology (including conducting
Public Health Epidemiology studies (disease burden assessment or
intervention studies), investigation of disease
outbreaks or clusters, or designing and managing a disease
surveillance system); AND
- Enrolled in/applying to enroll
in an applied/in-service training program including work leading
to publication of at least 3 applied Epidemiology articles (2
with advanced multivariate analyses methods) with
jHASE or through other peer-reviewed journals in the field
of applied Epidemiology. Self-paced independent work towards
meeting this requirement is permissible. However, all MCAEs
certified through this pathway must complete this requirement
within 3 years of enrollment;
