The mCC is a mechanism through which the iHASE virtual network of public health agencies' applied epidemiology and disease intervention practitioners can develop collaboration with academia and affected communities to incubate exemplary public health solutions. The MEGACourse supplements Applied Epidemiology in-service training within the scope of the core/focus areas shared by: -
-iHASE Model Collaboration Center, and affiliated Collaboration Centers/Units/Groups hosted by collaborating partner institutions;
-iHASE/jHASE Applied Epidemiology Fellowships/In-Service Training; and
-jHASE Quality Assurance and Continuing Education through an International Open-Access Peer-Reviewed Journal;
 

Core/Focus Areas of Applied Epidemiology Support for Disease Prevention & Control
[of HIV, STD, TB & Viral Hepatitis (non-enteric)]

 
  • Epidemiology Support for Prevention and Care Program Planning, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (incl. Epidemiologic data support for planning);
  • Design, Conduct, Interpretation, Summarizing/Reporting and Translation/Utilization (of Findings) of Studies on Monitoring of Disease Burden/Risk and Interventions, and Evaluation/ Assessment of Population-level Outcomes (Public Health surveillance: incl. surveillance of risk &/or behavioral factors; disease incidence, burden and progression; early outbreak detection linked to social network investigations/partner counseling and referral services (PCRS); linkage to prevention and care services) and other related  disease burden/risk assessment Epidemiologic research studies;
  • Design, Conduct, Interpretation, Summarizing/Reporting and Translation/Utilization (of Findings) of Disease Intervention Epidemiology Research and Development Studies:
    • Disease Control & Prevention Research: incl. population level research on biomedical (vaccines and drugs), behavioral and social interventions; linkage of early case finding to prevention and treatment/care for 'positives', e.g. voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) and partner counseling and referral services (PCRS); 
    • Health Services Research: Outcome evaluation of health intervention programs and health service delivery systems [incl. scale-up of HIV (& related disease) prevention and treatment (incl. antiretrovirals) programs]; assessment of health service needs and utilization; service gap analyses; assessment of health service quality; etc;
  • Statistics, Data Management, and Information Technology Methods Support for Surveillance (Disease Burden/Risk Assessment) and Intervention Epidemiology Research & Development Studies (incl. Outcome Evaluation and Health Services Utilization/Service Gaps);
  • Laboratory Support for HIV Surveillance (Disease Burden/Risk Assessment), Intervention Epidemiology (Interventions Research & Development Studies, incl. Vaccine, Drug, Outcome Evaluation and Health Services Utilization/Service Gap Studies), and HIV Screening & Diagnostics (Diagnostics Research & Development Studies)
  • Quality Assurance, Continuing Education, and Research Participants Protections through Peer-Review of Applied  Epidemiology work on the above-listed core/focus areas (Peer-Reviewed Journal, Institutional Review Board, etc)
  • Applied Epidemiology Capacity Development: Development of problem-based and in-service ("on-the-job") Applied Epidemiology training programs on the above-listed core/focus areas.
